IsolatIR Spectroscopy Glovebox™

The IsolatIR™ saves you time and improves your measurements by:

  • Maintaining your samples together with the spectroscopic accessory from start to finish in an unchanging, sealed environment
  • Isolating samples from moisture in ambient laboratory air
  • Isolating problematic samples from the user and from sensitive optical equipment
  • Fitting with each type of optical instrument and holding most commonly used spectroscopic accessories

photo of GloveboxMiddleton Research has developed techniques and devices to enhance the spectroscopic measurement of air-sensitive, oxygen sensitive or other challenging substances. The IsolatIR Spectroscopy Glovebox™ is our newest product to help practicing spectroscopists with these challenges. Your samples, together with your sampling devices and spectroscopic accessories, are isolated from the environment in the IsolatIR™.

The most common problem with analyzing a small volume of materials or minor components is moisture variation in the ambient laboratory air that produces large positive or negative water vapor bands in the infrared spectrum, in many cases, just around the important bands from the analyte. The IsolatIR™ keeps the samples in an unchanging, sealed environment, thus allowing maximum control of the atmosphere around the sample throughout background and sample measurements. Multiple samples can be placed inside the sealed chamber of the IsolatIR™ and moved into sampling position using the dual glove access from outside, without opening the compartment.

The isolated chamber allows the use of materials that can only be opened in an oxygen-free, moisture-free or other specific gas environment, and allows immediate measurement in the same gas atmosphere. Other materials could harm the sensitive parts of your optical instrument, have an unpleasant odor, or harm the operator. These materials can be kept in isolation throughout your measurement process: from opening the container, throughout the measurement and resealing of the material containers. The chamber can then be purged via the inlet and vented through the pressure controlled outlet valve to remove the undesirable substances to a controlled elimination point, such as a fume hood or other vent.

The IsolatIR™ module is designed specifically for your spectrometer model and its interior is designed to hold most commonly used spectroscopic accessories. Please contact us to discuss your specific application.
